Tina Certain

A lifelong Alachua County resident.
A trusted public servant.
A leader focused on practical results.

Tina Certain has spent years serving Alachua County families and working on the issues that shape everyday life.

She believes public service should be grounded in accountability, fairness, and a real respect for community voice. Tina and her husband Lawrence are lifelong Alachua County residents who raised their two children in the community they love. Their family’s deep connection to local public schools gave Tina a firsthand understanding of how local government decisions affect real families.

For eight years, Tina has served on the School Board of Alachua County, including as chair and vice chair. She has also served on the Children’s Trust of Alachua County in leadership roles including chair, vice chair, and treasurer. Her statewide leadership includes service as president, president-elect, and treasurer of the Florida School Boards Association, along with service on its committees. She has also contributed through the United Way Community Investment Committee and local planning boards for the City of Gainesville and Alachua County.

Those experiences gave Tina a broad understanding of budgeting, land use, community planning, children’s services, and the intersection between strong schools, healthy neighborhoods, and economic opportunity. She is running for County Commission because Alachua County needs experienced, independent leadership that can connect the dots between smart growth, environmental stewardship, public health, affordability, and strong communities.

Tina Believes That:

  • Government should be transparent, accountable, and understandable to the people it serves.

  • Budgets should reflect community values and be tied to measurable results.

  • Growth must be intentional, sustainable, and protective of our water, neighborhoods, and quality of life.

  • Every resident deserves to be heard, not just the loudest or best-connected voices.
